From the Desk of Chip Kemp - Vol. 1

Empowerment. Your empowerment. Much talked about. Seldom done.

Our driving force at 701x is to provide your farm or ranch family with real, touchable, tangible tools that reinvent and reinvigorate your ability to make a profit. That’ll take on many forms. Over time, we will highlight those in this newsletter.

But, first, we must admit that many things have changed. We have to say it out loud and accept what that means to us. If we don’t, we are simply ignoring reality and tilting at windmills. And the result of that is clear – we jeopardize our kids and grandkids ability to stay in the beef business. And let’s level with ourselves. That is likely the biggest goal.

At times, this section of the newsletter will unsettle you. Maybe even make you mad. Case in point, 1) we ship 1800 lb steers now (and they will get bigger), 2) you do not know which of your bulls are working and which are lounging by the creek (you can know), 3) that cold snap during mating season resulted in too many opens you didn’t know about until it was too late (and that was preventable), etc.

I welcome a candid conversation. I encourage your feedback or thoughts. Feel free to email me directly at chip.kemp@701x.com. In the meantime, let’s seek a metanoia. That word is most often used in a far more important sense than cows. But it also applies here. Let’s seek a metanoia, a reorientation or conversion, about how we think about our business and our place in it.
